Kitchens have come a long way, and many of us are now opting for ultra-modern kitchen designs. There is now much more scope for making a bold statement of style in this most important of rooms. With a wealth of colour choices and new smart appliances, your kitchen can be whatever you want it to be. That could be anything from sleek and contemporary to modern with a traditional twist. If you’re moving or planning to revitalise your kitchen, it can be hard to know where to start.
Here at Albany Kitchens we’ve been creating stunning bespoke kitchens for our customers since 1990. We’re happy to share our knowledge and experience to help you find the perfect kitchen for your home. Read on for some helpful tips on what you’ll need to consider.
Modern kitchen design ideas
Before anyone takes out a screwdriver, you need to decide what you want your kitchen to be. Work out your budget, measure the available space and give some serious thought to style and colour. For some creative ideas, a visit to a kitchen appliance showroom is often advisable.
Ovens
Built-in ovens are both practical and functional and will save space in your kitchen. As well as this, build-in ovens are often installed at eye-level, making life easier for the cook.
Hobs
Because they’re fast, safe and energy-efficient, induction hobs have become a popular choice in recent years. More recently, mixed fuels and cooking surfaces are offering home chefs a more restaurant style experience.
Fridge-freezers
American-style fridges with ice dispensers have taken off in the UK. If your kitchen won’t accommodate this larger option, a built-in fridge might be a better choice. These can be hidden behind cupboard doors to give your kitchen a seamless finish.
Microwaves
A free-standing microwave can take up valuable worktop space. In a kitchen with limited room to work that can be an issue. Ultra-modern kitchen designs allow built-in microwaves to be positioned wherever you want, giving optimum cooking convenience.
Dishwashers
No modern kitchen is complete without a dishwasher, but metallic, white or black may not suit your planned colour scheme. If that’s the case, a built-in version can easily be blended with your cupboards. (The same applies to washing machines).
Sinks and taps
A Victorian-style porcelain sink with brass taps may not be the right fit for an ultra-modern kitchen. But you’re not limited to stainless steel either. Materials like acrylic, copper, stone or granite can look stunning and contemporary. If you do a lot of cooking, would a dual-basin sink make life easier? Think about what you’re trying to create, and take a look at the huge range of styles available. Only your own imagination can hold you back.
